The “Three Flows” refer to water flow, vehicle flow, and pedestrian flow.
Traditional Feng Shui emphasizes the balance of Yin and Yang. Water flow is considered Yang, soft, and intangible, while a commercial shop is regarded as Yin, solid, and tangible. When a shop is positioned to receive the flow of water, it is traditionally considered a prosperous wealth-attracting location. Water flow represents moving Qi, and vehicle flow and pedestrian flow are also regarded as forms of moving Qi.
Therefore, when selecting a commercial location, it is traditionally considered preferable to choose places where water flow gathers or comes to a stop, such as ports and docks; places where vehicle flow converges or stops, such as parking lots, subway stations, and railway stations; and places where pedestrian flow is concentrated, taking into account the major directions in which people move.
From the perspective of commercial Feng Shui, a prosperous business should be able to receive and gather the water flow, vehicle flow, and pedestrian flow. Without these “Three Flows,” it is traditionally believed that a business may find it difficult to flourish.
