Executive Summary: What a Seed Year Asks You to Establish

Period 9 runs from February 2024 to 2043, and its ruling star is Nine Purple (九紫右弼) — fire, the south, visibility, recognition. The market has read that correctly and stopped there: be seen. But a period is twenty years long, and its middle years punish anyone who mistook the first act for the whole play.

The correction is a matter of status. Classical Xuan Kong assigns every star one of five conditions — 旺 (prosperous), 生 (generating), 退 (retiring), 死 (dead), 煞 (killing) — and the status, not the star's number, determines what it can do. Nine Purple is 旺: a lamp. One White (一白貪狼) is 生: the 未來生氣, the future prosperity star, whose period has not arrived and whose influence is therefore generative rather than triumphant. One White is a seed. Eight White (八白左輔) is 退, and the tradition's phrase for it is exact — 退而不敗, retired but not defeated: still the most reliable star for anything that must be kept.

Three stars, then, are worth building around in this period: 9, 1 and 8. A lamp, a seed, and a granary. And here is the fact that organises the whole of 2026: the annual star is One White, and it sits at the centre. The seed is present and it is central, which means the year's generative energy is available to be stored but not directly reachable from any facade. That is what a seed year is — and a seed year is not a year for harvesting. It is a year for establishing.

October 26, 2026 is the day the almanac assigns to that work. It is Gui You (癸酉) — Yin Water on the Rooster — carrying the Jian (建, Establish) officer, the first of the twelve, with the Na Yin Sword-Edge Metal (劍鋒金). Its month is Wu Xu (戊戌), its year Bing Wu (丙午). The chart contains fire and earth, and exactly one drop of water — the day stem itself, which the month stem 戊 seizes in 戊癸合.

This Guide sets out what "establish" means as an operation rather than a mood: how a star's potential is converted into momentum, where the 2026 chart permits it, why the year's 3–6–9 set is present but misplaced, and what has to be finished in the nine days before November changes character on the ninth.

The Day's Signature: One Drop of Water on a Sharpened Blade

癸 (Gui) is the last of the ten stems and the most misunderstood. It is Yin Water — not the river but the rain, the dew, the mist that condenses on cold metal overnight. Its classical image is 雨露之水: water that arrives without force, penetrates by patience, and is gone by mid-morning if nothing holds it. In the body it governs the Kidney (腎) and, with it, essence, marrow, the ears, the hair, and the capacity to store rather than spend.

The distinction between the two water stems is the day's first useful idea. 壬 is flow; 癸 is storage. 壬 water is the channel, the current, the thing that moves and is measured by volume. 癸 water is 精 — essence — the thing that is measured by whether it is still there in the spring. A chart that wants 壬 wants circulation. A chart that wants 癸 wants containment.

酉 (You) is Yin Metal at its most refined: the 正位 of metal, the pure essence of the 巳酉丑 frame, the branch of Dui — the mouth, the mirror, the finished surface. In the branch-to-organ correspondence of the tradition, 酉 corresponds to the Kidney as well. So the day doubles its own signature: stem and branch both point at the same organ, and both point at storage. A 癸酉 day is, structurally, a day about the vault.

Then the Na Yin: 劍鋒金, the metal of the 壬申/癸酉 pair. The tradition's image is not the ingot or the coin but the edge — metal worked to the point where it has a direction. Its classical instruction is a single line and it governs the whole of this Guide: a blade is made by water and ruined by fire. 劍鋒金 喜水以淬, 忌火以煅. Quenching hardens; annealing heat softens and warps. On a 劍鋒金 day, the remedy is never heat.

The chart's relations sharpen the point into an instruction.

戊癸合. The month stem 戊 (Yang Earth) combines with the day stem 癸, and the direction of that combination is toward fire. Read plainly: the day's only water is bound by the month's earth and pulled toward the month's heat. The resource exists, it is committed elsewhere, and it is being converted into the element that damages the day's own metal. The practical translation is unusually concrete — on this day the thing you are relying on is already promised to something else. Check the calendar, the bank balance and the delivery date before you promise anything on the strength of it.

酉戌相害. The day branch 酉 and the month branch 戌 form one of the six harms: 酉戌相害. A harm is not a clash. A clash is loud and resolves; a harm is quiet and festers. Its signature is the agreement that is fine in principle and wrong in detail — the contract signed on the right terms with the wrong schedule, the partnership with the right people and the wrong exit, the renovation approved with one clause nobody read. On a 建 day, which is precisely the day for founding things, this is the day's one serious warning: establish the terms, not just the intention.

The officer: 建. Establish. First of the twelve 建除 officers, the day the month's own qi is anchored. The almanac's assignments for it are consistent across schools and worth stating because they are counter-intuitive: 宜 上任、出行、立約、立柱、開基、會友、祈福 — good for taking office, travelling, making agreements, raising the frame, laying the foundation, meeting people, making petitions. 忌 動土、掘井、開倉、乘船、安葬 — avoid breaking ground, digging wells, opening the storehouse, boarding a boat, and burial.

Two of those prohibitions are the day's whole argument in miniature. 建日不開倉: on the day you set the standard, you do not empty the granary — you would be spending the month's accumulated qi at the moment it is being established. And 建日不動土: the 建 direction this month is 戌, so the northwest must not be broken or drilled, which happens to coincide with the year's illness star sitting there. A day that says "found it, but do not dig" is a day that has already told you what kind of founding it means: the kind done with rules, not with shovels.

The 建 Officer: The Difference Between Founding and Starting

Most of the commercial literature on "good days" collapses two operations that the tradition keeps strictly apart, and the collapse is expensive.

Starting (開) is an event. It has a date, an audience and a photograph. Its success is measured in the first week. The Xing Wei day of October 24 carried the 開 officer for exactly this reason — it was a day for openings, apertures, announcements.

Founding (建) is a structure. It has a standard, a boundary and a duration. Its success is measured in the third year, and it is invisible on the day it happens. 建 is the officer of the rule: the charter, the price list, the specification, the naming, the line that separates what the business will do from what it will refuse. Nothing visible is produced. Everything later depends on it.

This distinction is why 建 is followed in the cycle by 除 (Remove) and not by 成 (Complete). A foundation is only a foundation if something has been cleared away to receive it. Whoever establishes without removing has simply added weight to an existing confusion.

The tradition also gives 建 a technical character that is often lost in translation. Because 建 is the day on which the month's qi is doubled — the officer and the month branch coincide in function — a 建 day is the month's most potent day and its least tolerant one. Potent, because whatever is fixed on it carries the full weight of the month. Intolerant, because a 建 day magnifies errors of structure as faithfully as it magnifies correctness. You do not test a foundation on the day you pour it.

For a business, the practical translation of 建 is a short list, and it is worth writing down before anything else in this Guide is applied:

  • Set the standard. The specification, the quality threshold, the definition of "done".
  • Set the boundary. What is out of scope, out of stock, out of season, not for sale.
  • Set the price. Including the form in which it is supplied — a point that returns in the VAT section below, and one with real money attached.
  • Name the thing. A category without a name cannot be searched for, referred to, or defended.
  • Register the date. What was established, on what day, by whom. On a 酉戌相害 day, the record is the remedy.

And the one thing not to do: do not launch on a 建 day. A launch needs 開. A 建 day's gift is that the thing launched later will hold its shape.

Establishing Potential: 勢 as the Unit of Measure

The Chinese term that does the work in this section has no clean English equivalent, and the gap is why so much Western feng shui advice stops at arrangement. The term is 勢 (shì) — momentum, posture, the latent force of a thing positioned to move. 形勢 is form and momentum: not the shape of the landscape but the shape of the landscape plus what that shape will do. 蓄勢 is stored momentum, the drawn bow.

A star, in this vocabulary, has two separate properties. It has 氣 (qì) — the quality it carries — and it has 勢 — whether that quality is going anywhere. Five Yellow always carries obstruction; that is its qi, and no arrangement changes it. Whether the obstruction arrives is a question of 勢, and 勢 is a function of three conditions the tradition states in a fixed order.

得位 — position. The star must occupy the palace where its element is at home, or a palace from which its element can act on the plan. Nine Purple in the southeast (巽, wood) is 得位 in a specific sense: wood feeds fire, so the visibility star is fed by the palace rather than fighting it. The same star in the south is at home but static; in the north it is at war with the palace and wastes its strength on the water.

得時 — timing. The star must be in its own period, or in the period immediately before its own. This is the entire content of the five statuses. A 旺 star is 得時 by definition. A 生 star is 得時 in the sense that matters for building: its period is coming, which means the work done now is priced at today's cost and delivered at tomorrow's value. That is the whole financial case for a seed year, and it is not a metaphor.

得用 — use. The star must have an activity to govern. This is the condition practitioners skip, and it is the one that decides most outcomes. A star with position and timing but no activity is a properly sited factory with nothing in production — 有形無勢, form without momentum. Apertures, movement, function and light are what turn position into momentum. The door that is used, the desk that is worked at, the passage that is walked: these are not decoration, they are the machinery by which a chart is made to do anything at all.

Establishing a star's potential, then, is not a ritual. It is the deliberate satisfaction of those three conditions in that order, and the order is not negotiable. Position without timing is a beautiful room in the wrong decade. Timing without use is an opportunity nobody collected. Use without position is effort spent against the grain of the building — which is what most businesses in a favourable year are actually doing.

The Three Potentials of Period 9

Each of the period's three usable stars is established by a different operation, and confusing them is the most common structural error in Period 9 practice.

Nine Purple — establish by 明 (making visible). Fire's potential is realised by exposure. The operation is the 明堂 (míng táng): the bright hall, the open and uncluttered ground in front of the entrance, the space that lets the building be seen before it is entered. A blocked 明堂 is a lamp under a bowl — the star is present, at full status, and entirely ineffective. In commercial terms the 明堂 is the first three metres of the customer's approach: the pavement, the threshold, the window, the first screen. Nine Purple's characteristic failure is that fire flares most brightly around something hollow, and a 明堂 opened onto an empty offer produces visibility without conversion.

One White — establish by 藏 (storing). Water's potential is realised by containment. The operation is not a fountain; fountains move water, and this star in this period is about holding it. The correct instruments are the still vessel, the dark surface, the enclosed courtyard, the unlit corner, the accounts. One White governs intelligence, communication and flow, but in Period 9 its strategic function is to be the place where the year's value is kept until its period arrives in 2044. A building that exposes its water — the fountain in the lobby, the mirrored wall, the open plan that lets everything be seen at once — has 得位 and 得時 and no 藏, which is why so many well-designed Period 9 offices are visibly busy and quietly broke.

Eight White — establish by 蓄 (accumulating). Earth's potential is realised by mass. The operation is the granary: storage that is physical, listed and counted. Eight White is 退而不敗, and its specific competence is retention — inventory that turns, renewals that recur, the customer who comes back. In a period whose fashion is novelty this is the least glamorous instruction in the Guide and the one that decides survival. Earth accumulates by addition, not by intensity: the mountain grows by stones.

Put together, the three operations describe a single sequence, and it is the sequence of a year rather than a day. Make it visible (9), store what it earns (1), accumulate what is stored (8). A business that does only the first has a brand and no balance sheet. One that does only the second has savings and no demand. One that does only the third has a warehouse and no future. 2026, with One White at the centre, weights the middle operation heavily — which is precisely why the year feels slower than the period's reputation promised.

3–6–9 in the Wrong Palaces: Why 2026 Offers No Shortcut

There is a classical technique for accelerating a period star, and it is worth naming because its absence in 2026 is diagnostic.

The 父母三般卦 (the three connected groups) divides the nine stars into three sets — 1–4–7 (坎, 巽, 兌), 2–5–8 (坤, 中, 艮), 3–6–9 (震, 乾, 離). When the three stars of a set occupy their own three palaces, the chart can communicate across periods: the energy of a future period becomes usable in the present. This is the mechanism behind 七星打劫 (the seven-star robbery), the technique by which a chart borrows forward from a period it has not yet reached — powerful, rare, and conditional on the 9, the 1 and the 7 being arranged so that the 坎 and 離 palaces communicate. Schools differ on how strictly to apply it; none of them applies it to a chart that fails the structural test.

2026's annual chart fails both conditions, and the manner of its failure is the year's most interesting fact.

The annual chart flies One White to the centre, giving: southeast 9, south 5, southwest 7, east 8, centre 1, west 3, northeast 4, north 6, northwest 2. Now look at the 3–6–9 set, which is Period 9's own group. It is entirely present: the 9, the 6 and the 3 all appear. But look at where. The 9 is in 巽 (southeast) — the palace of the 4. The 6 is in 坎 (north) — the palace of the 1. The 3 is in 兌 (west) — the palace of the 7. Every member of the set is sitting in a palace belonging to a different set.

This is 錯位, misplacement, rather than 連珠, connection. The tradition's reading is consistent: the potential is all there, fully present, and not in a position to travel. A 3–6–9 set in the wrong palaces is a complete tool kit with every handle facing the wrong way — nothing missing, and nothing that can be picked up quickly.

Two conclusions follow, and they are the practical heart of this Guide.

First: there is no 打劫 in 2026. Nobody accelerates this year. Anyone selling a technique that promises to pull the next period forward is selling the one thing the chart does not permit. The year's value can only be established the slow way — by position, timing and use.

Second: the slow way is available, and it runs through one aperture. Because the annual 9 sits in the southeast, and the southeast is adjacent to the east (where 8 sits) and to the south (where the year's pressure sits), the southeast is where the period star can actually be reached from the perimeter. That is the 城門 (gate) question, and its rule is narrow: a gate may be opened in a palace adjacent to the facing palace only if that palace holds the period's 旺 star (9) or its 生 star (1). In 2026 the southeast is the only palace that satisfies it, with the 9 in residence.

The southeast therefore carries the year's entire accessible potential — and it also carries the 病符 direction for a 午 year. The year's opportunity and the year's cost are in the same corner. That is not a warning to avoid the corner. It is a warning to staff it, ventilate it, and not sleep in it.

The 2026 Chart: Where Potential Can Be Established

The table below reads the annual chart against the two monthly regimes of November, so that a plan made in late October can be checked against both halves of the month it will run into.

Sector Annual Nov 1–8 Nov 9–30 What may be established here
South 5 4 3 Nothing. Five Yellow on the 太歲; wood feeds it all month
Southwest 7 5 6 Nothing in the first week (交劍煞); paperwork after the ninth
West 3 2 1 Negotiation after the ninth; nothing that needs speed before
Northwest 2 1 9 Metal only, placed not installed; no ground broken (建 direction)
North 6 5 4 Nothing new. 歲破 and 三煞; let the Six drain the Five
Northeast 4 3 2 Writing, teaching, specification — before the ninth only
East 8 7 6 Output, production, inventory — with still water to hold it
Southeast 9 6 7 The gate: outward-facing work, with the 病符 caution
Centre 1 9 8 1–9 fame for eight days, then 1–8 collection; keep clear

Three readings from the table deserve to be spelled out, because they contradict the intuitions most people carry into the fourth quarter.

The centre is the year's most valuable address and its least usable one. One White at the centre is the seed, and a seed cannot be occupied — the centre of a plan is a passage, a stairwell, an atrium, the place everyone walks through. Keep it clear, keep it light, and put nothing there that needs to be left alone. The centre is where the year's potential is held, not where it is worked.

The east produces and leaks. Eight White sits in 震 all year, and in both November regimes metal arrives (7 then 6). Earth generates metal, so the wealth star spends its substance making something else all month. The east is the best sector in the building for output — manufacturing, packing, delivery, anything counted in units — and the worst for retention. The correction is a still vessel of water in the east, not a fountain: something that holds what the star generates instead of letting it run into metal.

The southeast is a door with a bill attached. Nine Purple with 6 and then 7 is fire attacking metal in both halves: the period star in open conflict with the element the month keeps bringing. The southeast remains the year's gate and the year's 病符 direction simultaneously. The mediator is water — blue, black, glass, a still reflective surface — because water conducts between fire and metal instead of letting them strike. Put the outward-facing desk there. Put nothing there that requires rest.

November Preparation: Nine Days to Establish, Twenty-Two to Collect

November 2026 divides at the ninth, and applying one month's remedies across the whole month is the most common error in the practice. The month stars follow the lunar month: for a 午 year the first lunar month flies Eight White to the centre and the sequence descends by one each month, so the ninth lunar month carries Nine Purple at the centre and the tenth carries Eight White.

Regime I — 1 to 8 November: Nine Purple at the centre. The period star returns to the governing position for eight days. This is the month's visibility window: announcements, launches, public positioning. It is also, for the same reason, a period of exposure — anything hollow is more visible than usual. The 1–9 pairing at the centre is the classical fame configuration, and it is brief.

Regime II — 9 to 30 November: Eight White at the centre. The retiring wealth star takes the centre and the month changes character completely. Eight White is the granary, and a month governed by it is a month for collection rather than promotion: invoicing, reconciliation, renewals, closing what was opened in October. The 1–8 pairing is earth sitting on water — a granary built over a well. The year's seed is covered by the year's harvest, and the correct activity is to store, not to announce.

The transition on the ninth falls two days after 立冬 (Start of Winter) on 7 November, which ends Frost Descent and begins the winter. Its three pentads are 水始冰 (water begins to freeze), 地始凍 (the ground begins to freeze) and 雉入大水為蜃 (the pheasant enters the great water and becomes a clam). Then 小雪 on 22 November brings 虹藏不見 (the rainbow hides and is not seen), 天氣上升地氣下降 (heaven's qi rises and earth's qi descends) and 閉塞而成冬 (blockage completes the winter).

That middle pentad is the whole of November's instruction, and it is not poetry. 天氣上升地氣下降 describes separation: the two qi stop communicating. In a building this is 氣散, qi scattering — neither ventilated nor grounded, everything slightly unresolved. The remedy is the same one the body uses: separate deliberately, then reconnect at one point. One open window, one grounding element, a clear boundary between the active and the resting zones. Not everything open; one aperture, properly placed.

Which makes the last week of October a preparation window with a hard edge, and the work splits cleanly into two columns.

Establish before 8 November. The specification and the price list; the supply structure (see the VAT section); the naming of the year's core offer; the Q1 2027 calendar; the suppliers who must be qualified before the freeze; the inward-facing documentation that nobody wants to write in December. These are 建 activities — structural, unglamorous, decisive later. If a launch is planned, it belongs in the 1–8 November window, not in the last week of October, because a 建 day will not give it the visibility that 開 gives.

Defer until after 9 November. The collection work: reconciliation, aged receivables, inventory counts, contract renewals, the closing of the October book. Doing this before the ninth is working against the chart; doing it after is working with it. And the renovation work — if any is planned for the fourth quarter, note that the south, the north and the northwest are all unavailable, and after 立冬 the ground itself is freezing.

The single sentence that summarises the window: establish what must hold, launch only in the first eight days, and collect from the ninth. Everything else in this Guide is a condition on that sentence.

The Three Prohibitions, Restated for a 建 Day

Directional prohibitions in 2026 are unusually concentrated on the north–south axis, and a 建 day adds a fourth constraint that catches people out.

太歲 in the south (午). The Year God's palace is not disturbed: no excavation, no demolition, no drilling, no heavy furniture moved in, and no attempt to "fix" the sector with a remedy that involves work. Five Yellow already being there makes the point structurally — the south is where the year's obstruction lives, and the correct response to obstruction is stillness.

歲破 in the north (子). The branch opposite the 太歲 and the direction of maximum tension in the year. The instruction is identical and slightly more urgent, because 歲破 is where things break.

三煞 in the north (亥子丑). For a 寅午戌 fire-frame year the three killings fall on the three water branches, all in the northern quadrant. The rule is that the 三煞 direction is not faced during construction and no ground is broken there. Since 歲破 shares the quadrant, 2026's northern prohibition is effectively doubled.

And the 建 direction: 戌, the northwest. This is the constraint that a 建 day adds. The 建 direction is the direction of the month's own branch, and on a 建 day that palace is at its most charged and least tolerant — 建日不動土, no ground broken in the 建 direction. 戌 sits in the northwest quadrant, which already holds the year's illness star. The convergence is convenient rather than coincidental: the northwest is a place to place metal, not a place to work.

The combined practical instruction for the fourth quarter: the south, the north and the northwest are unavailable for any work; the east and southeast are open; the southwest is available after the ninth of November and not before; the west is available and will not reward the effort.

腎與勢: The Ni Haixia Reading of Stored Potential

The Ni Haixia (倪海厦) lineage reads the body the way a geomancer reads a site: not as a set of parts but as a system of circulation in which the decisive question is always what is being stored, and where. The 癸酉 day is unusually direct on the point, because both its stem and its branch correspond to the Kidney (腎) — the organ the tradition calls 作強之官, the official of strength and exertion, and the seat of 精 (jīng), essence.

The classical physiology is precise about what the Kidney does and does not do. It does not supply energy on demand; it holds a reserve and releases it under regulation. 腎藏精, 精化氣 — the Kidney stores essence, and essence transforms into qi. Everything downstream — bone, marrow, the brain, the ears, the hair, the capacity for sustained effort — is drawn from that account. Which means the Kidney is, functionally, the body's granary, and the Eight White star's logic applies to it exactly: what is not accumulated cannot be spent, and what is spent carelessly in one season is missed in the next.

The Inner Canon's warning is the one that belongs in a November article: 冬不藏精,春必病溫 — if essence is not stored in winter, febrile illness follows in spring. The mechanism is not mystical. Winter is the season of storage; the body that treats winter as a continuation of summer spends its reserve at the moment the reserve is meant to be built, and the deficit surfaces two seasons later, in a form that looks unrelated to its cause. This is the same structural error as a business that promotes through the quarter in which it should be reconciling.

Ni Haixia's clinical habit, as recorded in his lectures on the Shang Han Lun and the Huang Di Nei Jing, is to look for the yang that is not rooted rather than the deficiency that is obvious. Cold limbs with a flushed face, insomnia with fatigue, heat above and cold below — these are pictures of 陽不歸根, yang that has risen and lost its base. The remedy in that lineage is rarely a tonic; it is usually a restoration of the descent — warming the lower body, closing the surface, stopping the outflow. The treatment for a leak is not more water. It is a smaller hole.

The architectural reading is not analogy, and it is worth stating as three instructions that happen to be identical in the body and in the house.

Keep the lower part warm. In the body: the waist, the feet, the lower back — 命門 and 腎俞. In the building: the ground floor, the floor itself, the perimeter at floor level. A house with cold floors and hot ceilings is a house with yang that has risen and lost its base, and its occupants sleep badly for reasons no furniture arrangement will fix.

Close the surface in cold weather. In the body: the pores, the neck, the upper back — the 太陽 layer. In the building: the door that is left ajar, the window that never shuts, the extractor that runs all night. In winter, ventilation is a scheduled act rather than a permanent condition. That is what 天氣上升地氣下降 asks for: a deliberate opening, at a set time, then closure.

Store before you spend. In the body: sleep before midnight, food that is warm and cooked, no cold drinks in cold months. In the building: the reserve account, the inventory, the renewals — the 蓄 of Eight White. A 建 day is the day to decide what the reserve is, because the decision is structural and 建 is the officer of structure.

One further point from the same lineage deserves to be made, because it is the most practical thing in this section. Ni Haixia's teaching on the Kidney is inseparable from his teaching on sleep — specifically that the hours before midnight are not interchangeable with the hours after it. The 酉 hour (17:00–19:00) is the Kidney's own hour, the point at which the day's expenditure is either banked or lost. It is also, on a 癸酉 day, the day's most charged hour. The traditional use of it is not activity but closure: finish the day's work, eat warm, stop the inflow of new demands. Whatever is established on October 26 will be established by evening.

This traditional perspective is offered for cultural and reflective interest, not as medical advice; diagnosis and treatment belong with a qualified clinician.

The 13% Axis: Establishing a Supply That Survives an Audit

Since 建 is the officer of structure, the honest test of this article is whether it can say something useful about the least glamorous structure in a small business: the form in which a remedy is supplied, and the rate that form attracts. Feng shui remedies are cheap objects and expensive projects, and the tax treatment follows the form, not the intention.

6% — modern services. Advice, audit, consultation, a written assessment, a remote reading. Where the deliverable is analysis, the supply is a service at 6%. This is the cleanest structure for a practitioner and the cheapest for a client, and it is why a written report is worth more than its content suggests: the document fixes the form of the supply. An engagement that exists only as a conversation is, from a compliance standpoint, a supply with no defined character — and it will be characterised by whoever is least friendly to you.

9% — construction and installation services. Where the engagement includes fitting, mounting, building or alteration, the supply becomes a construction service at 9%. The moment a remedy is installed rather than specified, the rate changes. A proposal that bundles advice with installation at one price has converted a 6% analysis into a 9% works contract — and, in the Chinese invoicing system, into a different category of invoice altogether.

13% — goods. Where the remedy is sold as an object — a crystal, a screen, a water feature delivered as merchandise — the rate is 13%. And the 混合銷售 (mixed sale) rule applies: where goods and services are supplied together in a single transaction and the supplier's principal business is goods, the whole transaction is treated as a sale of goods at 13%.

Four consequences follow, and they are the ones that survive contact with an accountant.

Itemise. A proposal listing "assessment (6%)", "installation (9%)", "materials (13%)" on separate lines is compliant, transparent, and cheaper for the client than an equivalent bundled price. Bundling is not a saving. Bundling is a rate upgrade, and it is the most common unforced error in this trade.

Fix the tax point at the milestone. Renovation and fit-out work is frequently progress-billed, and the tax point arises on receipt or on invoicing, whichever comes first. On a chart carrying 酉戌相害 — the quiet harm, the agreement that is right in principle and wrong in detail — the milestone documentation is precisely what goes missing. A fit-out completed in November and invoiced in January loses its period match, and the 建 work of this quarter fails its own structural test.

Watch the input side. Materials bought for a project carry a 13% input credit; services carry 6% or 9%. A practitioner who purchases materials personally and recharges them without a compliant invoice has converted a recoverable credit into a permanent cost. This is not a loophole; it is the difference between a business that keeps its own money and one that donates it.

And the strategic point, which is the reason this section belongs in a feng shui Guide at all. In a Period 9 economy the visible intervention is the one that gets paid for and the invisible one is the one that works. The tax code draws the same distinction: the analysis is taxed at 6%, the theatre at 13%. A practice that has understood 得用 — that use is what turns position into momentum — should notice that the same logic prices its own work. Figures are illustrative and rates are indicative. Crystal Resonance for a Sword-Edge Day

The day's requirement is narrower than a month's, because 劍鋒金 has one rule: it is fed by water and destroyed by heat. Every placement below follows that rule.

  • Clear Quartz — the neutral reference, for the centre where One White sits. On a day with one drop of water in the chart, the centre should be clear and unoccupied rather than decorated.
  • Black Tourmaline — schorl, pyroelectric and piezoelectric; for the north, where 歲破 and 三煞 sit and where nothing may be installed. Place, do not fix.
  • Pyrite — iron disulfide, a metal-rich cube for the northwest to drain the Two Black. Kept dry, unhandled, and never moved on a 建 day.
  • Selenite — gypsum, the evaporating stone, for the southeast gate where fire and metal clash and a mediator is required.
  • Blue lace agate or lapis — the day's own stone, for the east, where still water must hold what the wealth star generates instead of letting it leak into metal.
  • Citrine — the granary stone, for the storage decision itself: what the reserve is, and where the record of it lives.

Treat placement as a discipline of attention — a way of making a sector's requirement visible so that it is not violated by accident — rather than as a mechanism. The cure is in the arrangement of the space; the stone is the reminder. On a 劍鋒金 day, the one instruction to carry is negative and absolute: no red, no candles, no heat applied to metal. Do not sharpen a blade with fire.

The Practice: A Five-Stage Protocol for October 26

The day's officer is 建, so the protocol is about structure rather than activity. Five stages, in the order the chart supports.

  1. Stage I — Draw the Chart (07:00–08:00). With clear quartz. Sketch the plan and mark the nine sectors with the annual star. Do not analyse; just place the numbers. The most common error in the practice is treating a sector as a mood rather than a position, and the sketch prevents it. On a 建 day, drawing is the work: a foundation that exists only in someone's head is not a foundation.
  2. Stage II — Write the Standard (09:00–11:00). With citrine on the desk. One page: the specification, the boundary, the price and the name of the year's core offer. This is the 建 operation proper, and it should be finished before anything is announced. The 酉戌相害 of the day will tempt you to leave a detail to be agreed later; the detail is the point.
  3. Stage III — Close the Three (11:00–13:00). With black tourmaline and pyrite. Confirm that nothing is scheduled in the south, the north or the northwest — no drilling, no furniture moved in, no important meeting. Place the metal in the northwest so the Two Black has something to generate. This is the year's one non-negotiable, and it is cheaper than any remedy in this Guide.
  4. Stage IV — Open the Southeast (13:00–15:00). With selenite and a still water element. Move the outward-facing activity — the desk where enquiries are answered, the display that faces the street, the publishing function — into the southeast, and place the water as mediator between Nine Purple and November's metal. Then declare, in writing, what the gate is for. An aperture without a purpose is a hole.
  5. Stage V — Bank the Reserve (17:00–19:00, the 酉 hour). With blue lace agate or lapis. Do not add anything to the day. Close it: reconcile what came in, record what was established, decide the reserve figure, and stop. The Kidney's own hour is not for activity. What October 26 establishes will be established by evening or not at all.

One caution, given the day's stem: everything above assumes the resource is available. 戊癸合 says the day's water is bound to the month's earth and being pulled toward fire — so the schedule, the budget and the delivery date you are relying on are probably committed elsewhere. Check all three before promising anything. That single check is worth more than the other four stages combined.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What does the 建 officer actually govern?

A: Establishment as a structure rather than an event — the charter, the specification, the price, the name, the boundary. Its classical permissions are 上任, 出行, 立約, 立柱, 開基; its prohibitions are 動土, 掘井, 開倉, 乘船, 安葬. On a 建 day you set the standard; you do not launch, and you do not empty the storehouse.

Q2: Why can't a 建 day be used for a launch?

A: Because launching is 開 (opening), a different officer with a different logic — it produces visibility immediately. 建 produces shape that holds later. A launch on a 建 day tends to be quiet and to hold its structure; a launch on an 開 day is loud and needs a structure already in place. The October 24 Xing Wei day carried 開 for exactly that reason, and today's job is to make sure what was opened has something behind it.

Q3: What is 劍鋒金, and why does it forbid fire?

A: Sword-Edge Metal is the Na Yin of the 壬申/癸酉 pair — metal worked to the point of having a direction. Its classical rule is 喜水以淬, 忌火以煅: water quenches and hardens, heat anneals and warps. Practically, on a day carrying it, do not use fire remedies — no candles, no red, no heat applied to metal — and do not attempt to accelerate anything by intensity.

Q4: Why does this Guide say 2026 has no 七星打劫?

A: Because the 3–6–9 group is present in the annual chart but misplaced. The 9 sits in 巽, the 6 in 坎 and the 3 in 兌 — each in a palace belonging to a different 般卦 set. That is 錯位 rather than 連珠, and a chart in that condition cannot borrow forward from a future period. The year's potential has to be established by position, timing and use instead of by technique.

Q5: What are the three conditions for a star's 勢?

A: 得位 (position — the star in a palace that supports its element), 得時 (timing — the star in or approaching its own period) and 得用 (use — an activity for the star to govern). They must be satisfied in that order. Position without timing is a good room in the wrong decade; timing without use is an opportunity nobody collected.

Q6: Why prepare in late October rather than in November?

A: Because November splits at the ninth. The first eight days carry Nine Purple at the centre and are the month's only visibility window; from the ninth, Eight White governs and the month turns to collection. Structural work — specification, pricing, supply form, the Q1 calendar — has to be finished before either regime begins, which puts it in the last week of October.

Q7: What is the single most important action today?

A: Write the standard down. One page: specification, boundary, price, name. On a day whose branches form 酉戌相害, the agreement that is right in principle and wrong in detail is the day's specific hazard — and the written record is the only remedy that works. Do that, and the year has something to hold.
